Figure out which type of screen protector is right for you.
Trying to choose between tempered and synthetic glass screen protectors? Tempered glass is slightly harder overall and is designed to crack so as to diffuse the force of impact away from the screen. In contrast, synthetic screen protectors are less likely to crack themselves but may lack the look and feel of true glass. For these reasons, our tempered glass is a little more popular overall, but many people who have cracked their screen protectors in the past choose the shatterproof synthetic.
Looking for more information to help you decide between tempered glass vs synthetic screen protectors? Here is the complete guide from BodyGuardz®.
+ Tempered glass is great for users who drop their phones or who need extreme impact protection. + These screen protectors are virtually indistinguishable from the look and feel or your actual smartphone screen. + Tempered glass is more smudge and fingerprint resistant.
+ Synthetic glass screen protectors are created with materials that include layer-by-layer, fortified protection. + Synthetic protectors won't chip, crack, or pop off your screen. + Perfect for people tired of replacing screen protectors, these screen protectors offer shatterproof protection.
More than just the differences between synthetic and tempered glass, you need to know about the manufacturer and product. High-quality tempered glass offers superior protection to your smartphone, but not everybody uses high-quality tempered glass. The main ingredient is silicon dioxide, but because this material has such a high melting point, additives must be used. Much of the difference in quality of the glass has to do with these additives—the most common being soda-lime. BodyGuardz original line of Pure screen protectors uses soda-lime glass. In 2016, we introduced Pure 2, a new line of aluminosilicate glass screen protectors with a 9H hardness rating, ultra-thin profile, and stronger screen protection overall. Our tempered glass screen protectors allow us to offer a precision fit with edge-to-edge coverage and crystal-clear visibility.
There are even bigger differences in the quality of synthetic screen protectors. Many of these products offer strong protection for your screen but suffer from poor touch sensitivity, clarity, and fit. Another difference is how much the plastic will show scratch marks. Higher quality materials include a flexible, self-healing layer that hides superficial scratches. Beware of cheap plastic screen protectors, but also know that a premium synthetic material is often better than many types of tempered glass. Our PRTX® synthetic glass is a hybrid screen protector with three layers. The bottom layer is an absorbent adhesive designed to maintain perfect touch sensitivity. The middle layer is a formula of high-quality acrylic and PET that prevents cracks and minimizes scratch marks. The final, protective layer is an innovative, electroplated topcoat that feels and looks like real glass.
Knowing the differences between synthetic and tempered glass is important, but it's not the only factor.
